SCHOOL VISIT.-

One main purpose for the Symbolic Migration is to visit schools whose children and their families live at the buffer area to the Monarch Sanctuaries, since this children will most likely be future Ejidatarios to their own land areas and forests regulations within the Monarch Butterflies Natural Reserve in Central México. The program finds it a priority to try to provide helpful additional enhancing knowledge on the preservation of their own natural habitat, including, of course, the role that Monarch Butterflies play in the equilibrium of their local ecosystem in their region, this year, among the kingdom of pollinators. “Redención del Campesino” is the elementary school at a highly populated area where families have lived ancestrally from forest resources, but where within the last 6-8 years the progress of local family avocado farms and ornamental flower nurseries tend to increase as a parallel activity at the locations at the low valleys to Monarch Sanctuaries “My parents say avocado farms might be not harming Monarchs’ sites, since they can only be developed at low and far levels at bottom of mountains” —a child among the huge attending group comments—. ““Mine wonder which could be the best way to grow flowers at nurseries without harming our Monarchs and our pine, cedar and oyamel forests; my parents are specially exporting pointsettia flowers; we do know now that pesticides are very harmful”, —another asked—. Estela explained to them the importance of avoiding the use of pesticides and the way they harm pollinators and for instance, our own means of survival with food production. “The immense variety of vegetable and fruits we can buy so unexpensive everyday could someday become rare and unaffordable if pollinators dissapear”, —they concluded after reflecting of the determining role of pollinators in mankind’s life—.
