"Octavio Paz" high school
SCHOOL VISIT.-
Visiting youngsters at a high school with the different topics of conservation is really interesting. The “Octavio Paz” high school is located as part of the surrounding lands of the Sierra Chincua Sanctuary. The Oyamel forest areas belonging to these families are extremely important to the buffer areas to the Monarch colony at the Sierra Chincua Sanctuary in the “Palo Amarillo” Ejido and village. Every student at high school is getting ready at this age to share or even take over responsibilities on their family’s living. Forest activities, agriculture and cattle raising are their most important activities, so, to reinforce in them their strong feeling of identity to their own land through preservation/conservation reflections, is really welcome by every student. “I will not continue studying; I will take over my father and grand-father’s role at working my land and watching on my forest, so I am very interested in doing things as best as possible; I would never think of living in a city, so the more I learn on my own land, the better” —Rodrigo Figueroa, a student said”. “I will try to continue studying in the city, but conserving my forest and Ranch will always root me and take me back home”. —a few others said. “The more we learn, the more we discover that all around is like a chain; if a joint is broken, the whole system will be affected”, —a girl expressed really concerned. “I want to be an engineer in Agronomy”; recognizing the different wild flowers, else local plants and animal species was really teaching us all. Learning on how dependable we are on pollinators for our own survival was indeed impacting positively in these future Ejidatarios at this community.
