SCHOOL VISIT.-
We will continue our driving visiting all of the schools closer to the back side of the row of mountains of the “Sierra Chincua” Sanctuary, whose families do different tasks for a living, including forest resources. These Oyamel, pine, and in general, coniferas forests are considered to be the lungs of the whole central México in terms of natural resources in general. More and more local people raise awareness of the need of the integral conservation of their local ecosystems, and learn about different activities to make alternative ways of life. Education shall be a key entrance for these new generations that the Symbolic Migration visits every season at the schools surrounding each of the three Sanctuaries. Lissandro and Ana Lilia, walking as most children to reach their school this morning, speeded up their step as soon as they noticed the sound of white VW Rocinante bringing their Ambassador Monarchs to them!. “We knew the white funny bug would appear any moment now”, “we wondered whether this season we would have our Ambassador Monarchs from our friends in the north!, we are so many schools all around these mountains, so many children…!” , girls and boys told me as they opened wide doors for their paper butterflies to come in!. Again, our experience of exchange at the classroom on the richness and huge variety of mushrooms —over 300 species—, reptiles, anphifians, birds, insects, and the fascinating variety of wild plants, made them aware of the way, each element and plant or animal species provide determinant conditions for the protection or survival of the others; the printed slides brought to them and the playing of the “Web of Life” game made them whisper to each other from here and there in the classroom: “this is incredible!, it is if our planet were a magical paradise where life could be like a fiction film in television!”. Dear friends, a 75% of the schools in our region get your fantastic Ambassador Monarchs, but still, a minor proportion can get them one season yes, and the other not. We invite you to keep participating, since, your paper butterflies enhance every season, a real feeling of identity, of responsibility on our natural surroundings, and their belonging to a large community of students in our three countries, Canada, the United States and México who are fighting, not only for the conservation of the habitat of Monarch butterflies, but for the survival of the different ecosystems along the Monarch migration corridors along this part of our continent.
