SCHOOL VISIT.-

After this obligued hold up almost the past whole week, due to a drop down in our local temperaturas to even 2-5 Celcious and under zero degrees at the Monarch Sanctuaries, when very litle children shall attend school, we now re-take our school visits.  “That our classrooms can be cold is not a problem  because we all warm it together after having arrived for a while!”.  –Micaela cheerly expressed herself, welcoming us together with the rest of her classmates, used indeed, like all other children to being at their classroom without any heating at all--.  “If it is raining, then we might not attend school, since many of us may catch a cold, that, when simple, mom or grand-ma will easily cure with some warm delicious different kinds of teas and fresh-smelling ointments, all of them from herbs brought from our forests, and with which we most likely will recover, but  when getting worse to even dangerous, then our parents get really concerned and this means going to the doctor traveling to our nearest town or city;  we will get shots and may even get held up at hospital for a couple of days and we hate that!”, --Vicente, Valeria and others expresse at a time while in the playground at breaktime--.  Medical assistance in our small villages surrounding the Monarch Sanctuary may turn into a challenge when a member in a family, either and adult or child gets ill.  Traditionally, our Mexican families living in small locations, only get very basic medical aid some sort of medical units which count on rather pracarious assistance.  Further medical but still basic assistance shall be possible at the nearest bigger town, but when a complicated diagnosis or case, demanding for special treatments and studies shall arise, they temporarily will have to migrate to much bigger cities where the state mostly provides excellent, high speciality medical assistance and where, mostly, people coming from little villages or surrounding towns get all necessary assistance for free, and sometimes, if lucky, be provided with staying facilities and very low cost meals for the accompanying relatives. The state, so, takes over this responsibility, on all families not being under a formal and defined Social Health and Security scheme.  The lowest the family income, the lowest a really symbolic fee to be paid, --if any--, at the end of really serious situations..  There are cases though, in which, if for any reason, an emergency circumstance in the family, not having idea of how to reach our enormous medical units in our high populated cities, not an adequate orientation not enough transportation means, or even a tardy reaction, families shall contract private medical services, which in México could mean from a fairly meaningful effort, to situations overpassing all financial possibilities in a whole family nucleous, where the family patrimony, like selling their cattle, family belongings, up to a  portion of their land property shall be necessary in order to manage with the situation.  In average, 75 percent of our families living at the surroundings of the Monarch sanctuaries, including small villages and towns, live under these just described circumstances regarding Social Health care.   The rest average percentage of families nowadays, having a young member in the family to migrate to a bigger town or city getting a formal job at a private company or government institution, may count on the State Social Health Insurance System provided to the employee and whose medical benefits shall cover first grade relatives, only.   A last option and really seldom probability –if any--, to get health assistance in our small locations shall be through contracting a private medical Insurance through different well credited insurance firms in big cities. No case known with such possibilities around us. We know of no case.  It could be of interest to let you know of this important aspect of our lives which, together with our education system, form the basic components of our local society, our children and their families, around the Monarch butterfly sanctuaries in México. Children received your Ambassador Monarchs with great excitment, noisiness to go to their accompanying map to see where you sent them from and to hardly imagine the distance they traveled to reach them here, Elaborating and decorating their letters in the best way for you, sharing their concerns about the conservation of their local ecosystem affecting Monarchs’ habitat makes them understand better and better the interconnection of plant and animal life in our planet. The day ended up with Valeria and Gabriela showing us their way back home with their moms, which location was at only some hundreds of meters from their school, before she waved us good-bye going into the cozy kitchen to have dinner with her parents and grand-pa’s.
