SCHOOL VISIT
Dearest friends, we are coming to the end of our visits to the schools around the Sanctuaries, delivering your fantastic Ambassador Monarchs and environmental lessons to our children living and attending school in the surroundings to the three main Sanctuaries where the largest Monarchs’ colonies are, ending up at the schools around “Sierra Chincua” Sanctuary. Regarding education in México, we shall tell you that Elementary school level in México is mandatory. At every school we visit, all children have the dream to get either a profession or to run their own business in the future. Until a few years ago now, we only had up to high school level schools in our region. Nowadays, we have a couple of university-level schools in our two nearest cities only 30-40 kms. away from our locations where engineering and humanity studies are the choices. However we had not had a school where our young generations could be encouraged to study a career related on environmental fields. Look, these are only a few opinions of our children’s dreams for the future and all this developed as the students in class could today reflect on our great map on “Endangered Pollinators” (a gift from you through “Monarchs Across Georgia”, and the slides of our endangered loca species in class: “I want to be a Mechanical engineer", —Diego, 3rd grader said—; “I want to be a teacher”, “me a nurse”, “me a hairdresser” —Gisela, Maritza and Mariana, 5th graders, replied.—. “We want to be bee-keepers like our parents!”, —Sergio and Marcela, attending 6th grade added—. “ I will continue running our farm raising pigs and sheep just as grandpa’s did and now mom and dad do!”, —Genaro in 3rd. grade said raising his hand—. “I am already supporting dad to work in the ranch; we have the best potatoes in our region and I want to have my own truck and workers”, —Ricardo, 5th grader said—. “Mom and my oldest sister are both running their own trout farm and restaurant and we are now famous and many people come, specially at the weekend to buy trout or love our trout cooking in our small restaurant!”. Well, we just got wonderful news in our region!. A new university school on Environmental careers is just opening in the surroundings of our town!. One of the main aims of this upper-level school project, is to support Monarchs’ habitat conservation, through teaching agriculture practices based on a sustainable basis for the region, restoration of wild green areas, many more alternative ways of living than forest resources in the region, etcétera. The project is now already running with a couple of careers and a first generation are already attending. This, friends, will bring a huge change on the concept of living in the region for our new generations and the rescue of our local ecosystem shall get great support through this new educational project!. Estela was placing the big news at most of our schools and children, specially at the upper grades, got really enthusiastic at knowing this, since this is very recent news coming only a few weeks ago!, this is great news for us!, hurraaaa!!!. Do you have a similar school and projects nearby where you live where you can study environmental sciences so that Monarchs are directly being benefited by it? We are sure you do!.
