Estela Romero’s brave VW bug continues to deliver your Ambassador Monarchs, driving through every road or trail surrounding “El Rosario” Monarch Sanctuary.  Every student shall receive one of your beautiful hand-made symbolic butterflies.

Singing and dancing welcomed the Symbolic Migration from enthusiastic teachers and students at this school!

Once in the classroom, the Symbolic Migration program speaks about monarchs to children.

“Monarch butterflies come from far away in Canada and the US, where they are born and become butterflies, to stay over the winter at our Oyamel fir forests because these trees are their favorite.  All over our planet, we are a unique place having the largest Oyamel fir forests!”

(Our children can identify Oyamel trees immediately, because it was a tradition for a long time in the past for families in the villages surrounding monarch Sanctuaries, to cut the top of these trees to bring home and decorate as Christmas tree. Fortunately, nowadays natural trees have been replaced by artificial Christmas trees, identical to our natural trees. We have natural tree nurseries as well, open at Christmas time, where one can purchase a short, fluffy tree similar to our Oyamel fir.)

“Your school friends in the United States and Canada cannot see monarchs roosting by thousands as we see them here, can they, teacher Estela?”

…teacher Roxana addresses her students.

“No, they cannot, I responded.

“Besides sheltering monarchs, our forests provide us with many other things!  What can we collect and take home from our forests?”

…Estela asked students.

“Timber to heat our homes! Mushrooms! Remedies when our stomach aches or when we have got fever! Water!”

                                 …students in the class responded.

“All this thanks to our large and beautiful Oyamel forests! Estela added.

Building their own model forest in their classroom with their own hands brought to our little students an idea of the importance of the conservation of our trees in the forest for monarchs and for them and their families.
