Until next season!

Dear friends,

During our conservation lessons brought by the Symbolic Migration along these last four months,  it would mostly be not enough to spend 2-3 hours together with local children, family members and teachers at the surrounding communities to the Monarch butterflies’ overwintering Sanctuaries.

Too many questions and comments could come at a time once the central part of the lesson was tought at every visit, so that from that moment on, endless facts and comments showered in the class about the different reasons why our legendary forests are a treasure for Monarchs, for the rest of our local ecosystem, for us local society, for our Nation and for the whole world, having this been declared Mankind’s Natural Heritage in year 2009.

One of very important facts to stress, specially with groups where youngsters and adults were attending during our conservation lessons, was that   that the BIO-GENETICS of our centenary Oyamel and else species of trees in the Monarch butterflies natural Reserve, IS UNIQUE.  The more we conserve our ecosystem in general and the longer the time lapses we allow our forests to re-forest by themsleves with the own fallen seeds of local centenary trees, the better the exceptional quality of our oxygen, our water and properties of our soil shall keep.

This central topic about trees and forests shall continue to be a permanent constant in future lessons in coming seasons, in order to go deeper into facts that result of vital importance for our local families and their children to learn regarding our ecosystems’ conservation.

“The Benefits of Trees” topic this season has reached students’ and families in a really important way at every visit.

Going all over the surroundings of the Monarchs’ overwintering colonies during these months doing “outdoor” meetings for the first time in the history of the Journey-North-Symbolic Migration lessons on conservation, has allowed to reach an important part of our local society, responding, within possible to enquiries and clearing out doubts they had about their own local ecosystem, aiming to making them  aware of the possible extent of the challenges we have already started to face in terms of  droughts, unusual temperatures, scarcity of water, plant and animal species under severe stress, etcétera, bringing, on the other side, the good news that, in many aspects, we could still be in very good time to revert many of damages caused up to now if we continue our commitment to conservation as local society.

Bringing your Symbolic Monarchs to the hands of everyone of our students, opened eyes wide in their faces not believing they were making one more new friend this season, living exactly at the regions where Monarchs breed all along the migrating corridor in the north, sealing one more time this season, this sisterhood commitment built over the years, at being responsible for the conservation of Monarchs’ habitat.

The donation of books both by the Monarch Butterfly Fund this year as well as by the Monarchs Across Georgia Organization, resulted, more than ever, the perfect, encouraging and best matching material widely appreciated by students and teachers at every single vist.

“We love these lessons from the Conservation visits every year, since they tell about many things we had never heard before; had our parents and grandparents known of some aspects on conservation, we would have started to praise much more and much earlier the natural treasure we have been born and we still have”, -a rather mature-aged local mom once said during one of our visits.

“The invaluable material on books we receive each single year, provide us with wonderful didactic material to draw our childrens’ attention to topics that are definately enhancing our students’ formatio on Conservation”, -several teachers expressed-.

For your participation as students, for the coordination of American and Canadian teachers to make the Symbolic Migration possible this so challenging year, for our friendship and commitment with Monarchs and nature in general into the future, THANK YOU.

The last part of the colony still in our Oyamel forests up to yesterday afternoon, has finally left this Sunday, March 28th, exactly at the time when our blog was closing its last editions this season too… a singularly special coincidence.

In some days now, these last Monarch butterlfies just departing will have reached you and the whole Methuselah generation willl have triumphantly accomplished their ancestal commitment with its own species’ preservation.

Monarchs are just opening a new year’s life-cycle now with you there, northern friends!.
