While receiving your colorful Ambassadors, our local students are sharing through their letters, facts about three of our most common local moth species which share habitat with the monarchs.
Many adult moths have no feeding mouthparts. As caterpillars, they do eat with chewing mouthparts, and with a spinneret, they produce silk thread to knit their cocoons.
Our “Bruja,” Cuatro Espejos,” and “Tigre” moths are only a few of the variety of moths we have. Adult moths are more abundant in the warmer months. In winter, they enter a dormant phase, most commonly in the form of larvae or pupae.
Which moth species share habitat with the monarchs while breeding in the spring and summer in Canada and the United States?
***A group of women from the United States, some retired teachers, and others volunteers with Monarch Watch, congratulated the Symbolic Migration for the years of conservation lessons taught. They were very interested in hearing from instructor Estela Romero about life and education in the region.
