SCHOOL VISIT.-

In the surroundings of two Sanctuaries in our region, “Sierra Chincua” and “El Rosario”, separated one from the other around 15 kilometers, there are, approximately, 40 public elementary schools —considering a ratio of 8-10 kms. from each Sanctuary—, (all of these schools absolutely for free to our children and supported by the State), from which the Symbolic Migration visits over 30 schools every season, depending on the number of Ambassador Monarchs sent each year by Northamerican and Canadian children. Apart from this average of 40 elementary schools surrounding the Monarch Sanctuaries, there are, among them, two elementary catholic private schools. Here the first one of them, Colegio “Vasco de Quiroga”. At this schools, children are asked to wear uniform every day. Different to public schools where learning a foreign language is not part of the academical program, children at private schools attend 1-hour English classes every single day, from Monday to Thursday (4 from the 5 days of the week), excellent dining room service with really nutritious warm meals consisting on grains, cereals, vegetables, beef meat, chicken, desserts and healthy cold and hot drinks; of course, Mexican food is part of it; all this for a really low fee (10-12 pesos) per meal (half a dollar): About education, teachers are continuously trained and checked on their progress in their groups, and, besides working on the official books and subjects, (Maths, Spanish, Science, History, Geography, Ethics, Sports, and, in this case, English), there is a back-up book with which they re-inforce their learning. and last, either guitar or dancing classes are also mandatory artistic subjects to attend. Classes start at 8:30 and end at 14:30, —half an hour earlier and later than public schools are attended—. This private school started in our region for 14 (fourteen) years now. The monthly fee per child at such a school is 800 (eight hundred) pesos, that means, 40 dollars; this school is really new —compared to the other private school—, which the Symbolic Migration is visiting tomorrow!. Children at this school and their homes are surrounded by the beatiful and dense forests of the far buffer area to Sanctuary Sierra Chincua. They were really excited and interested to hear about many new facts on pollination and pollinators. “Teacher Estelita, I have heard that human beings will continue to inhabit the planet as long as insects survive with us”; “My family are bee-keepers and I know lots of facts about bees and we love to help our grandparents to empty our bee-boxes", —Brisa, a girl in the group said proudly—. “On TV they speak about the future, when our meals will be packed in pills, because we may no longer see and have our meals as we do today, if we continue harming nature”, —Tomás said—. So the class got really enthusiastic and interested and compromised with the topic, so much that they really showed concerned, offering to extreme some daily measures in their daily lives as with water waste at home and school, avoiding plastic use, caring for green surrounding around, etc., in order to assume their own responsibilities on our local ecosystem. Even though many parents able to afford such a school look for better educational opportunities for their children, public schools, not to say at higher levels continue to be excellent options of education for chidren and youngsters in our country. Public Universities in México are top in rank all over Latin America and among the 20 best in the world according to International Standard estimates.
