"Guadalupe Victoria", Elementary — Symbolic Monarch Migration

SCHOOL VISIT.-

A new season begins and as the Mathusalen Monarchs arrive to our Sanctuaries, your Ambassador Monarchs land on the hands of our school children living and attendng school right at the bottom of the three biggest Sanctuaries in Central Mexico!. The first box of Ambassador Monarchs designed by their northern counterparts, is opened at one of the most populated elementary schools which bears the name of our first president after our independence from Spain. This year our topic of analysis shall be the current status of our local threatened, endangered and even extinct animal and plant species. “My great-grand-pa” assures we used to have lots of deer in our Oyamel forests” —Claudia immediately gave her first statement—. “Great grand-ma says that when she was a child, there used to be many, many more Monarchs and that Sanctuaries were immense and she was frightened and they as kids called the Sanctuaries” the frightening-dark cave!”, —Gustavo added—, and so students went on with anecdotes and histories from their grand-pa’s and great-grand-pa’s, sources of deep knowledge and tradition in every family, indeed. For the first time children played the game “Web of Life” played for the first time by these children, with the images of our threatened, endangered and extinct species, awakened lots of reflection on what we are doing to protect our remaining local plants and animals in our Oyamel forests!.
