“SCHOOL VISIT”.-
Most fathers or grandfathers to the families of most children living and attending school in the surroundings of all three main sanctuaries in our region, are called Ejidatarios; this means that, based on our Constitution, these Ejidatario families own the right and benefits of all the resources that the soil within their territories generates. For years now, most of them as well make an important part of their living from the touristic attraction that Monarch butterflies overwintering in our territory, .year after year, have brought to the region for at least a couple of decades ago now “We will someday we will inherit the titles of Ejidatarios from our parents or grand-parents, if we had those animals which are now extinct, like deer, roadrunners, some more abundant birds, and more abundance of our local plants, we would have much morre to show-off to so many people visiting us attracted by the Monarchs and their surrounding habitat”, —many children in the group agreed—.. “Our Oyamel trees are giant and so special to the world, for example!”, —they added—. The Symbolic Migration is aiming, through our visits and environmental lessons to these children, future Ejidatarios in our region, to make them aware of the importance on conservation and rescue, even from their own homes and schools with small actions avoiding pollution, destruction, and overuse of natural resources. The “web of life” game was a wonderful experience illustrating the lesson of the day. Images also show the typical breaktime for children at school, while they have some fun; boys typically play marbles, “trompo” and foot-ball soccer, while girls are more quiet and talk about their toys and tasks at home and the way they would like to become young ladies, study a profession and keep their homes beautiful; most come to the snack-stand where they can spend from one peso for a candy to up to ten pesos for a delicious torta!. Children LOVED to receive their symbolic Monarchs turning their eyes wide open at seeing from where each Ambassador butterfly came from in the United States, and also enjoyed receiving their books gifts by Monachs Across Georgia bringing a lot of the immense natural diversity of our region and our country!
