At the "Monarca" Neighbourhood in town!
OUR VISIT
Dear friends, the visits we will do this season shall include children attending the schools the Symbolic Migration program has visited in former seasons and what is best, many other students that every other year do not receive their Ambassador Monarchs due to the numbers sent by you, which although every year reach a really high number, the population of children living and attending schools around the Monarchs overwintering reserve, is mostly always higher. This time, a group of children living in the surroundings of at an important pine forest area, one of the very last halting spots for Monarchs before they make their choice on the Oyamel forest to go, either to “Sierra Chincua” or to “El Rosario” overwintering locations, is attending Symbolic Migration visit. “Thank you for coming and make our children aware of such important information about our different tree species here; we are very concerned about the climate change, and living surrounded by this wonderful little forests spots, makes it very important that our children know that the sign that thousands of Monarchs make their last halt here before reach their Sanctuaries, should be a sign of something really positive; maybe that we still keep here a very healthy spot, since our children see here frogs, toads and salamanders, a sign that we keep important water and humidity reserves” – the 6 Moms and three teachers attending the program exchanged among them and then spoke loud of it to the rest of the audience attending--. “Being us in town at 2,500 meter elevation and the Monarch Sanctuaries at over 3,400 meter elevation, as the lesson has told us, I did not know that from the 10 forest tree species dominating our forests in the area, and from our 10-12 fruit tree types abundant all over around and inside our homes, only 3-4 of the former ones and only 3-4 local fruits at the most could grow up at the Monarchs’ forest spots, due to the elevation and drastic climate difference, being the Monarchs’ reserve a slightly over zero Celsius area during the winter and us a little warmer down here!”, -Diana, a high school student in town attending the lesson this afternoon, said to the others, while analyzing the exhibition of the different tree species slides being held by their friends at the front of the big group the Symbolic Migration managed to congregate this afternoon, and which was requested by the group of mothers to come back with another presentation for one more group of children in the “Monarca” neighborhood (this is how the neighborhood is officially called), as soon as possible this very season, which the program could not really promise but expressed possibility if times and material available shall allow--. Seeing from how far each of their Symbolic Monarchs was coming from as well as their teachers receiving their books for their school library, made of this, we hope, a special afternoon for adults and children.
