Ambassador Monarchs accomplishing their Great Mission!
OUR VISIT
Very dear friends and neighbours from the North! Here your very first Ambassador Monarchs reaching our children living and attending schools at Monarchs’ overwintering spots in Central México!. As you should probably know, school facilities in México have been closed these months due to the pandemics as in many parts in the world. After several months now, our children and their families are really eager to see their schools open again. During the last few months, knowing that the Monarchs’ season was approaching, teachers, parents and students kept asking, more than ever, whether their Ambassador Monarchs and their lesson would visit them this season. While driving around our small villages, they strongly expressed their high expectations that the program would be here again for them, since, this, --they said-- “will make us feel that part of our school life is with us”. As you will learn along the reports in our blog, we have been a región which keeps officially considered as a “white location”, this means, far from reaching the official mínimum, regarding the pandemics affectations, with no break out whatsoever of the pandemics, so you will observe that our lives keep running nearly normal, basically only sticking to general hygiene and sanitizing measures at home and while outdoors activities. The only big difference in our lives is that our schools have been closed up to now, with good possibilities to see them opening back again next January 2021. The lesson to bring to our children this year through the Symbolic Migration is a determinant response to the so many challenges that new generations and mankind in general are facing: The importance of trees in our local ecosystems. Every meeting with smaller groups of Mexican children sometimes outside school facilities, some other times in different meeting points around our three main Monarchs’ Sanctuaries: “El Rosario”, “Sierra Chincua” and “Cerro Pelón”, will try to contribute to assessing our students’ knowledge on the different species of trees growing at Monarchs’ overwintering spots, the land they’ve been born and are growing up, as well as their endless benefits to our local ecosystem and to us inhabitans in the region. So, dear friends from the north, here your Symbolic Ambassador Monarchs reaching our children’s little hands and wide smiling faces, besides their book donation by the Monarchs Across Georgia organization!. Thanks to all of you participant students and teachers, making this so special an effort to participate, as well as to the Symbolic Migration Program’s unvaluable effort of coordinate all the Works in USA, making all of you that this be possible under this exceptionally challenging circumstances! “That the Oyamel tree is the favorite for Monarchs to overwinter due its special properties in their winter home; that they grow at really high altitudes and are much too tall having such short roots; that only a few other tree species can grow around them; that those forests have been hosting Monarchs for hundrends of thousands of years now”. All of this and more is what our first little group of students at one of the schools belonging to the “Sierra Chincua” Sanctuary, in the “Garatachea” tiny village, the closest to this beautiful Sanctuary, mostly second in colony-size every year, confirmed in their lesson while recognizing: “we live around the Sanctuary where only the Oyamel, Cedar and Pine trees can grow at over ten thousand feet elevation; we are a unique and special spot in the world”! they shouted again and again, braking out in joy the moment each of them opened both of their little hands to have their first Ambassador Monarch to land on in their little hands! Learning about trees in the Monarch Biosphere Reserve Forests for us, and most likely about flora and other species along the Monarchs’ breeding corridors for you in the North when our letters of response reach you, shall be our main commitment this season!.
