“Our modern public school system in México is in debt. The arts are not part of our children’s education as it used to be decades ago when music, dancing, painting, plastic arts and field expeditions were all part of our education.”

“Most of our schools do not rely on computers, nor do they have an art or music room, or a library. They are not focused on learning through field work.”

…4th grade teacher, Liliana, and 5th grade teacher, Leonardo, commented.

“We are a unique region sponsoring monarchs’ overwintering phenomenon and this, by itself, is calling for a change in our local behavior and education as a society. This movement has been getting started for a few years now.”

…they both added.

“Our gratitude goes to the Symbolic Migration, which, through their book donations and lessons on conservation, are trying to contribute to this long-awaited return to a more integral education for our students.”

…they ended, visibly grateful and delighted by this season’s visit today.

“Wow, how does it happen that water is not produced by trees themselves, but by our large forests attracting it mostly from the ocean currents and phenomenon there?”

“What?  That the largest Oyamel fir forests in the world are our forests, here where we live and where Monarchs have just arrived?  Our family will not believe this when we let them know!!!”

…children shouted as they enjoyed reflecting on the overall function of trees in our forests.

One beautiful aspect of our local and ancestral culture is that we are born knowing that we will mostly live and die in our own homeland.  This ancestral assumption has been, for some time now, seriously demanding for a determined change on nature conservation in our own local society, as the only and main grounds for such philosophy.
