THE VISIT

“NEZAHUALCÓYOTL” KINDERGARTEN

“La Rosa de Palo Amarillo” Community

Sierra Chincua Sanctuary

Coordinates: 19.6517855  -100.2184295

We should remember that the “Sierra Chincua” Sanctuary is occupying territory from both sides of the borderline dividing the States of México and Michoacán. All of the schools we will be visiting until the third week of January around this Sanctuary are located in the State of México, where the academic standard is the highest of the whole region.

Here your Ambassador Monarchs are being received with great appreciation!

Today, we visit the “Nezahualcoyotl” Kindergarten for the first time. (Nezahualcóyotl is an indigenous name for a member of a royal family and highly ranked military man who played an outstanding role in the conquest of pre-Hispanic México and its capital city, Tenochtitlan by the Spanish Crown in 1421.)

“Monarchs love to come and spend the winter in our mountains because the Oyamel fir trees in “Sierra Chincua” in México are their favorite!  Monarchs live in our forests accompanied by many other animal species like birds, frogs, salamanders, pollinator insects, mammals, and plants. Our giant Oyamel trees, hundreds of years old, act like a huge warm blanket for all of them!”

…Estela explained to the little students.

Teacher Cristina, born in the community, is the director at the school. With 34 years of teaching experience, she expressed gratitude for the visit of Symbolic Migration and its conservation lesson.

“I am retiring soon and I feel so happy to see that this program is reinforcing and bringing such specific lessons on conservation, making emphasis in aspects that our past generations have just taken for granted! This is a topic we should put as a priority to our new generations. I think we, as teachers, are progressing on it and the Symbolic Migration is bringing a wonderful reinforcement we so much appreciate!  Your books on trees and beautiful legends are treasures of our Mexican culture and roots for our children to learn to praise! Thank you! Thank you!”

Parents whose children are attending school at these facilities are periodically addressed by the educational authorities in the Education District through the local teacher, to volunteer on maintenance work at the school facilities like mowing, cleaning, painting, repairing, etc., as seen in the photos. This is purposefully a way to let children feel that their parents are fully involved in their bringing up and education.
