Words of appreciation by our Educational community
THE STORY
“Antonio Ruiz Pérez” Kindergarten
San José del Rincón Ejido
“La Mesa” Sanctuary, State of México

The Symbolic Migration program today is sharing your Ambassador butterflies and our message of conservation with NEW schools whose children, families, and teachers live in the surrounding forests of a small, but officially registered colony of Monarch butterflies located at Ejido “La Mesa.” It is located within the municipality (county) of “San José del Rincón” in the State of México.
Although “La Mesa” Sanctuary is not now open to the public, the Oyamel tree nucleus there is an important extension of our unique forests of conifers in the region.
After visiting the traditional schools that closely surround “Sierra Chincua” Sanctuary for many years, the Symbolic Migration program has expanded over the past 5 years. Now we are reaching even further to schools located between “Sierra Chincua” Sanctuary and “La Mesa” Sanctuary. It is important to encourage the conservation of the Oyamel forest extensions which provide habitat and ecosystem to the Monarch Butterflies hibernating at the core of the Reserve.
Today, at the “Antonio Ruiz Pérez” Kindergarten, a teacher representing the Education Authorities in this whole region of the state of México came to render a speech in appreciation to the Symbolic Migration for their many years of contributing to their children’s education in conservation and honoring of their local culture:
“The Regional Education Supervision of the Municipality of San José del Rincón, State of México want to express their most sincere gratitude and affection to the program, Symbolic Migration, for their visits and their invaluable classes on conservation which contribute to our students’ academic formation. We also want to especially thank the teachers and students in the north for their beautiful Ambassador Monarchs and their messages on conservation, which have awakened excitement and even much more pride in the care of the habitat of Monarch butterflies. Your didactic materials and book donations are greatly appreciated and useful to our teachers. Please receive our sincere appreciation. We hope we can continue to keep this educational exchange and make our community across borders grow even more.”
On behalf of the program participants from Canada and the United States, the Monarch Butterfly Foundation, Journey North, the Monarchs Across Georgia committee of the Environmental Education Alliance, and the Symbolic Migration, Estela expressed their sincere pleasure in being able to make this contribution.
