Soon after Monarchs’ arrival to our Oyamel forests a series of cold fronts hit México. At night Monarchs’ overwintering spots dipped to temperatures of zero Celsius in spite of the intermittent sunshine overday..
“Even though we miss getting snow every winter, this weather makes us recall the real winters we used to experience nearly 14 years ago. We were so used to this freezing conditions from November through March during the Monarchs’ overwintering season, however, our climate has drastically changed. Meanwhile, we adjust to these cold days and continue to attend classes in spite of the lack of heating systems in our schools and homes” -teachers stated-.
Monarchs should be okay. They have been through much worse conditions in the past. We welcome rain as it should lessen the drought conditions that we have had recently.

Días después de que las Monarcas llegaron a nuestros bosques de Oyamel, una serie de frentes fríos golpearon a México. Por la noche, en sus sitios de hibernación, las temperaturas cayeron hasta cero grados centígrados a pesar del sol intermitentes en el día.
“Aunque extrañamos ver nieve cada invierno, este clima nos hace recordar los verdaderos inviernos que solíamos tener hace 14 años. Estábamos tan acostrumbrados a estas condiciones casi congelantes de Noviembre a Marzo durante la temporada de invierno de las Monarcas. Sin embargo, nuestro clima ha cambiado drásticamente.. Mientras tanto, estos días de frío nos adaptamos y continuamos asistiendo a clase a pesar de la falta de sistema de calefacción en nuestras escuelas y nuestras casas” -comentaron los maestros-.
Las Monarcas estan bien. Ellas han pasado por mucho peores condiciones en el pasado. Damos la bienvenida a la lluvia, pues ésta aminorará las condiciones de sequía que hemos tenido recientemente.
