As we conclude our school visits in the El Rosario sanctuary area, it is with great optimism and satisfaction that I can proudly assure you that you are making a difference in the lives of our youth. Your wonderful Ambassadors, the lessons on conservation planned by Symbolic Migration, and the great donation of books illustrating nature’s amazements, make them, season after season, much more aware of the uniqueness of the local ecosystem in which they live and Monarch butterflies have chosen as their winter grounds since ancestral times.
Between the sanctuaries of El Rosario and Sierra Chincua, we pass by an important place named El Cerrito. Thousands of Monarchs each fall use this dense pine and cedar forest as their last resting point before reaching their final overwintering spots in the mountains.
“More than 450 families live in this neighborhood. The Symbolic Monarch Migration project helps us as teachers to make our families keep in mind the great importance and uniqueness of the surrounding forest and local ecosystem, and the flora and fauna living around them. This is essential support,” teachers expressed with gratitude and positiveness.
“Water is everywhere! So many things live in water and depend on it for life,” children exclaimed as they looked through their big, colorful book. “We do not want to see garbage around our homes. We promise we will place garbage in the right place and tell our seniors to keep our neighborhood clean and green as it is.”
Your Ambassadors and warm letters inspire our students to know we are a two-part team fighting for Monarch habitat and nature conservation!
