18 de Marzo Kindergarten

Ziráhuato village, downtown

Pass-by area of abundant nectar source for Monarchs

Ambassadors: 306-324

The different types of SOIL depend on the size of the rocks that compose it:

ARENA, segments of large rocks

LIMO, segments of medium rocks

ARCILLA, the tiniest and finest particles of rocks

Students at the 18 de Marzo Kindergarten could prove how wonderfully rich their HUMUS, or superficial soil layer, is by barely scratching the surface of their schoolyard with their fingers!

“Here we find worms, slugs, ladybugs, woodlice, root segments. Wow!”

Zirahuato’s soil seems to be a type of “Suelo Franco” or “The Perfect Soil” which means it has nearly equal parts of ARENA, LIMO, and ARCILLA.  Many plants grow in this kind of soil and this seems to be the reason why the Ziráhuato area is a favorite spot for Monarchs to nectar during the winter. A wide variety of flowers precede the various fruits grown here!
