Ambassadors: 345-387
Coordinates: 19-5570163 -100.3553341
Dear friends, we continue but are near completion of the delivery of your beautifully illustrated ambassadors in this highly populated area of Ziráhuato.
“Does the SOIL have a rough feeling? This means it has a SANDY composition. Pine trees and cacti grow well here.”
“SILT feels smooth and silky, like talcum powder, when dry, and floury when moist. Weeping willows and roses grow well in this soil.”
We learned these facts from the book Soil, donated through the Monarchs Across Georgia Mexico Book Project.
Decorating plant pots made from recycled containers and growing herbs for seasoning on windowsills are additional ideas we gleaned from another donated book, Manos a la Tierra, compliments of a Monarch Butterfly Fund Small Grants.
Our topic on SOIL perfectly matched the students’ lesson today: F O S S I L S!
The richest layer of soil is the HUMUS, which contains mushrooms, roots, bacteria, insects, worms, and more and where people have found petrified remains of plants, dinosaur skeletons, and mammoth tusks!.
It has been fascinating to find out how much we can learn about SOIL!
Your beatiful Ambassadors will hibernate in our classrooms just as real Monarchs hibernate now in our Oyamel fir forests!
