Niños Héroes Elementary closed during COVID and just reopened. Students were curious as to who was being greeted at their school and what was inside those boxes. They could hardly keep quiet or stop from touching everything! What excitement! “At last, we will receive the same awesome paper butterflies that our friends in the neighboring schools have gotten. Oh, my word, what is this? And this?” students repeated again and again.

What is pollination? “Pollination is an essential part of the reproduction of plants. The pollen on the anthers (male parts) of a flower sticks to the feet and wings of a pollinator. These animals transfer pollen grains to the stigma of another flower, where they can travel to the ovules (female parts). Every fertilized flower can turn into SEEDS and FRUITS. Seeds also contain the EMBRYO, which, when germinating, shall form a new plant or tree.” WILD FLOWERS are nectar sources where pollinators get their favorite compensation, this delicious mixture of water and sugar!

Symbolic Migration’s mega-banner and mini-banner are providing a wonderful mosaic of endemic, wild plants and flowers from our region for students to recognize and learn about their great importance in our local ecosystem! Sure, this is Árnica, this is Mirto, and our bright blooming Bugambilia and some more that are not here!” Mostly, girls would recognize them from the banner, since this is a tradition we are passed along from generation to generation.

We all wish you had been here to see how incredibly special every Ambassador received was to each of these students! Even though instructor Estela told students they could keep the Ambassadors, many would not believe it and put them carefully back in the materials box. As Estela gave those Ambassadors back to students and asked whether she had not been clear about saying they would keep them, they responded: “Really? Really? They are so beautiful and have come from so far! away. We cannot believe we can keep them! We cannot believe our friends in the north are sending these to all of us!” Off they ran, shouting with happiness and wanting to show and tell everyone around the big news!

La escuela primaria Niños Héroes cerró durante el tiempo de COVID y acaba de reabrir. Los alumnos se sentían inquietos de saber a quién se le recibía en su escuela y lo que venía dentro de estas cajas. ¡Apenas y podían contenerse y guardar compostura para no agarrar todo! “¡Que emoción! ¡Al fin recibiremos las mismas hermosas mariposas de papel que han recibido nuestros compañeros de las escuelas vecinas! ¡Ah, caray! ¿Qué es esto? ¿Y Esto? “ repetían los alumnos una y otra vez.

¿Qué es la polinización? “La polinización es una parte esencial de la reproducción de las plantas. El polen en las anteras (gametos masculinos) de una flor se pega a los pies y las alas de un insecto polinizador. Estos animales transportan granos de polen al estigma de otra flor donde estos pueden llegar a los óvulos (gametos femeninos). Cada flor fertilizada se convierte en SEMILLAS y en FRUTOS. Las semillas contienen a su vez el EMBRIÓN, que cuando germina, da lugar a una nueva planta ó árbol” ¡LAS FLORES SILVESTRES son fuentes de néctar donde los polinizadores obtienen su gran recompensa, ésta deliciosa mezcla de agua y azúcar !

¡El Mega Banner y el Mini Banner de la Migración Simbólica traen un increíble mosaico de plantas y flores endémicas de nuestra región para que nuestros estudiantes reconozcan y aprendan acerca de la gran importancia de nuestros ecosistemas locales! “¡Claro, ésta es Árnica, este es Mirto, y ésta nuestra intensa bugambilia y algunas otras que no están aquí¡” La mayoría de las alumnas las reconocía, pues esta es una tradición que se nos enseña de generación en generación.

¡Ojalá ustedes hubieran podido estar aquí para ver lo increíblemente especial que cada Embajadora recibida era para cada uno de nuestros estudiantes! Aún cuando la instructora Estela les comentó que debían conservar su Embajadora, muchos sencillamente no lo creyeron y las pusieron de vuelta a la caja. En cuanto Estela se las entragaba de regreso y les preguntaba si no había sido clara al decir que las debian conservar con ellos, ellos respondían: “¿De verdad?, ¿Deveras? ¡son tan bonitas y vienen de tan lejos! ¡No podemos creer que nos las podemos dejar! No podemos creer que nuestros amigos del Norte nos estén enviando esto a nosotros!” ¡corrieron gritando en júbilo queriendo mostrar y decir a todos sobre la gran noticia!
