Every one of your Ambassadors is so wonderful, rich in content, colorful, and creative!
In sharing aspects of lifestyle and community, Ambassador participants asked in one of their letters:
“What is the weather like where you live?”
“Our parents say it used to be rainy 6 months a year, that is was mostly chilly and grey. It used to drop to around 32 degrees Fahrenheit during Christmas and New Year. Nowadays, it hardly rains for 4 months a year. We have rather mild, short winters, and it gets warmer earlier in the spring”
“Do you live in a small town or in a city?”
“We mostly live in small villages with a few hundred to a few thousand inhabitants”
“How do you reach your school?”
“Most of us walk to school. Sometimes we bike and rarely take a bus, since every community has got Kindergarten to middle school levels close by. We might need to ride a few minutes in a local public van, or with our families, to arrive at a high school, since we have one single high school we share among several small communities”
“What are the subjects you attend at school? We are learning Spanish!”
“Our subjects are Math, History, Spanish, Ethics, Arts, Science, Technology concepts (including AI), “From Humanistic to Communitarian.” We are also returning to the inclusion of our Mother Languages from our ancestral cultures in our academic instruction, as well as our traditional apparel for special, festive occasions. In our case M A Z A H U A and O T O M Í are our ancestral Mother Languages among the 68 alive languages existing in our country”
“What are your favorite sports and games?”
“We love open-air games like soccer and baseball. We, girls, enjoy learning on home-chores from our mothers, but we also dedicate time to learn driving, planning on our future working and study options nowadays. We also enjoy some time to watch TV, and love to play open-air games and our traditional games. We do not have a computer at home or at school, which we do not really miss, since we all feel we are so free and have so much fun outside!”
“Which are your most celebrated festivities?”
“Definitely Christmas and our Patron Saint Day at our local church in October. Then our greatest is the Day of the Dead, in November 01 and 02, when the great massive arrival is ocurrings Monarchs arrive for us. Birthdays are also very important when we get a cake. Weddings and family gatherings are festivities where we don’t want to miss a day to dress up as best as possible!”
“Are there films of tv programs you prefer?”
“We like “Digital Circus,” Poppy Play Time, Roblox, and Paw Patrol, Frozen, Princesas, Pepa Pig, Miraculous, Huntrix, Encanto, My little Pony, Sonic and Minions. Also “El Chavo del 8” a comic Mexican program and others, which are really good!”
“What is your favorite food?”
“Wow!. We love to have spicy food. Carnitas, Barbacoa, Enchiladas, Chiles Rellenos, Mole, Chilaquiles, Arroz, Pasta, Tacos, Pozole… Beef and Pork with most of it and T o r t i l l a s with everything!”
“Rescuing our ancestral Mother languages and ancestral traditions and festivities is nowadays a priority for pristine, indigenous communities in our Education System. Our families and teachers are both main organizers and participants in these great events”
“Our Mazahua and Otomí languages imply a highly complex phonology, three tones to express the meaning of context, and a strong connection with Cosmovision, Nature, and Community Life”
“Look at the Hummingbirds’ poster and look at one of our local community festivities celebrating the pride of our Mother language, Mazahua”
