Longing for our school days to come back soon...
THE VISIT
For weeks the Symbolic Migration has been focused on our aim of forest conservation and it is time now to inform you about the state of affairs on how things run for our students regarding their return to school.
Every day on our local and television and radio programs we can hear how urgent it is for our children and youngsters to come back to their schools to meet their classmates and teachers. Specialists on education, psychologists and other professionals on related fields to education speak about the stress on which students, teachers and families in general have been for a whole year trying their best to attend school lessons through distance-learning.
Here, in the school population surrounding Monarch Sanctuaries, particularly from elementary to high-school level, the severe limitation on communication (except radio and television) in general has caused many students to have decided unfortunately to quit their school year. While others persevering, together with their teachers and parents, are not satisfied with the result of home learning at all.
Our state authorities have now managed, after some weeks of massive consignments of vaccines arriving to our country, to have given the first shot to most of our elderly population in all of the communities and towns surrounding Monarchs’ overwintering areas. Next, our teacher population shall be vaccinated. Once this accomplished, this shall hopefully be the moment to consider the official return to classes for our students at all levels.
One of our state educational program’s aim nowadays is that education development for our new generations shall combine an encountering with technology as well as the rescue and preservation of our ancestral roots. In our local experience in the Monarch region, we definitely can confirm that teacher’s physical interaction with our students is simply vital.
Encountering with technology shall be a very careful, rather long and hand-in-hand process for our students and teachers.
In our small communities surrounding Monarchs’ overwintering spots, the presence of our priests, our teachers and our elderly, represent authority, respect, values, traditions, identity and community union. They are the entities in which our new generations shall find the nests to our cultural patrimony where they are given the tools to enhance it and preserve it.
