“Come see the beautiful colored butterflies and wonderful books that have arrived from your school friends in the north,” the young and enthusiastic teacher shouted to the three children attending class today, lamenting that two students were missing, ill at home with flu.

As we paged through one of the books, the teacher called attention to the interesting images. “So many animals live in the water!  Turtles are fascinating. Sharks can be intimidating but we do not need to fear them as they live far from us in the ocean.”

 “We also have fascinating creatures in our creeks and streams such as our endemic Ajolotes or Axolotls. The distant relatives of these salamanders lived 280 million years ago.” instructor Estela highlighted.

“We can help keep our Monarchs’ and Ajolotes’ habitat healthy if we protect the plants and animals that live alongside them. We keep our forests and creeks free of garbage by putting it in the right place at home or at school,” Estela continued.

Wide eyes in amazement and spontaneous commitment came from these three delightful students during our visit today.

¡Vengan a ver las hermosas mariposas de colores y los maravillosos libros que han llegado del norte”! La joven y entusiasta maestra les gritó a sus tres alumnos presentes en la clase hoy, lamentando que hubieran faltado dos niños enfermos de gripa en casa.

Mientras hojeábamos uno de los libros, la maestra pidió atención a las interesantes imágenes. “Muchos animales viven en el agua! Las tortugas son fascinantes. Los tiburones pueden ser intimidantes pero no tenemos por que temerles, puesto que viven lejos de nosotros en el océano”.

“Nosotros también tenemos criaturas fascinantes en nuestras ciénegas y arroyos como los Ajolotes o Axolotls. Los familiares lejanos de estas salamandras vivieron hace 280 millones de años” Comentó la instructora Estela.

 “Podemos ayudar a mantener saludable el hábitat de nuestras Monarcas y Ajolotes si protegemos las plantas y animales que viven a su alrededor. Podemos mantener nuestros bosques y arroyos libres de basura poniendo esta en el lugar correcto tanto en la casa como en la escuela” Continuó Estela.

Ojos enormes de admiración y compromiso expontáneo fué lo que mostraron estos extraordinarios alumnos durante nuestra visita hoy.
